ESPN2 Pacific Rim will carry Thursday’s showdown between Albany and Hartford, two of the top men’s basketball programs in America East. Both teams feature several Australians on their rosters.
The game, also slated to be shown on ESPN3 domestically, will air live in Australia on Friday, January 23 at 11 a.m. AEDT locally in Melbourne and Sydney.
The Great Danes and Hawks collectively feature seven players who hail from Australia: Albany’s Peter Hooley (Adelaide), Sam and Mike Rowley (Sydney) and Geremy McKay (Melbourne) and Hartford’s Corban Wroe (Townsville), Taylor Dyson (Sassafras) and Dougal Weir (Sydney).
“We are excited to expose America East basketball to an international audience, especially in Australia,” said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen. “This will allow family members and friends of Australian players back home to watch the game and thank ESPN for making it happen.”
Both teams enter the game playing well. Albany is 5-0 in America East play for the first time since the 2005-06 seasons and has won eight of its last nine games overall while Hartford is off to its best America East start at 4-1 and has won its last four games.
