CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Nearly every America East men's soccer programs won games last week as the league went a combined 10-2-2 on the week. UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and Vermont all won two games last week while 14th-ranked UMBC went 1-0-1 including a scoreless tie against 10th-ranked Maryland. Hartford and Stony Brook each won their lone games while Binghamton split a pair of contests. Here are the week two award winners:

Player of the Week
Brad Cole, Vermont, Sr., Back, South Burlington, Vt.

  • Accumulated four points in leading to two wins in as many games last week. 
  • Scored the game-winning goal in the Catamounts' 2-1 win over La Salle Friday, the first of his career, and was part of a defense that held the Explorers to just one score despite playing a man down for 66 minutes.
  • Setup both Vermont scores in its 2-1 win over St. Francis Brooklyn Sunday.

Rookie of the Week
Eamon Kitson, Fr., Forward, Rumson, N.J.

  • Scored his first career goal in his first career start to help lead Vermont past La Salle Friday.
  • The goal came in the 30th minute as he dribbled through the defense and beat the Explorer keeper one-on-one.

Notes

  • America East teams went 10-2-2 last week and are 17-9-4 for a solid .633 winning percentage.
  • Vermont, which is receiving votes in both national polls, improved to 4-0-0 on the season, its best start since 2005.
  • UMBC, which was ranked 14th in last week's NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll, and moved up to 12th in this week's College Soccer News poll extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games (10-0-4) with a win over Appalachian State and a scoreless tie against No. 10 Maryland.
  • UMass Lowell won twice over the weekend to win the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Windjammer Classic.
  • Wuilito Fernandes scored twice on the weekend and was named the tournament MVP.
  • New Hampshire posted 1-0 wins over St. Peter's and Fairfield over the weekend to win Oneonta's Mayor's Cup.
  • Hartford beat Villanova, 1-0, Saturday on Javoni Simms' second-half score. The Hawks are unbeaten (2-0-1) through three games for the second-straight season.
  • Binghamton earned its second win of the year, beating Niagara, 2-0, Sunday.
