Stony Brook's Speakman and New Hampshire's Purrier take home #AEXC Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Five America East cross-country teams competed last week.  Hartford, New Hampshire, and Stony Brook ran in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College.  UMass Lowell traveled to Vermont to take part in in a duel against the Catamounts.

Male Performer of the Week
Eric Speakman, Senior, Napier, New Zealand

  • Eric Speakman was the top America East finisher at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown (8K) at Franklin Park, finishing 41st overall out of 184 competitors with a time of 25:16.
  • Stony Brook placed 12th out of 19 schools overall.
  • Speakman and the Seawolves went up against stiff competition, including nationally ranked #3 Oregon, #8 Syracuse, and #16 Providence.  In terms of top regionally ranked teams, Stony Brook also faced off against #6 Harvard, #Cornell, #9 Northeastern, and fellow America East team #12 New Hampshire

Female Performer of the Week
Elinor Purrier, Sophomore, Montgomery, Vt.

  • Elinor Purrier finished 12th at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown (5k) at Franklin Park, pacing all fellow America East runners with a time of 17:21.
  • New Hampshire placed seventh overall out of 21 schools.
  • The Wildcats competed against nationally ranked #1 Michigan, #5 Georgetown, #14 Syracuse, #17 Boston College, #18 Providence, and #25 Dartmouth.  New Hampshire was the top finishing team not currently ranked in the national USTFCCCA poll.
  • New Hampshire topped regionally ranked teams, such as #6 Harvard, #7 Cornell, #11 Columbia, #12 Connecticut, and fellow America East competitor, #13 Stony Brook.

Men's Cross Country Notes

  • New Hampshire placed 11th at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, while Stony Brook finished 12th and Hartford came in 19th.
  • Vermont topped UMass Lowell in their dual meet in South Burlington (6K).  Top finisher for the Catamounts was Dylan Souder who ran the course in 18:52, and for the River Hawks it was Aaron Martin with a time of 19:18.
  • In the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings, UMBC notches in at fourteenth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  In the Northeast Region, New Hampshire sits at #12 and Stony Brook moved up two spots to #13.
  • In the upcoming week, Albany, Binghamton, and UMBC Cross Country will head to Bethlehem, Pa. to take part in the Paul Short invitational at Lehigh. 

Women's Cross Country Notes

  • New Hampshire placed seventh at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown; Stony Brook came up in 15th and Hartford finished 21st.
  • Vermont bested UMass Lowell in their dual meet (5K) hosted by the Catamounts.  Top finisher for Vermont was Alicia Clark, who finished with a time of 18:15.  The leader for the River Hawks was Megan Mahoney.
  • In the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings, UMBC remains at eleventh in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  New Hampshire moved up to fifth in the Northeast Region, and Stony Brook currently sits as #13.
  • Albany, Binghamton, and UMBC’s Cross Country teams will head to Bethlehem, Pa. to take part in the Paul Short invitational at Lehigh.
