CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three America East cross country teams competed last week.  Albany, Binghamton, and UMass Lowell all took part in the Br. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet Of Champions (8K) at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.

Male Performer of the Week
Robert Allen, UMass Lowell, Junior, Cranston, RI

  • Robert Allen won the Br. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet Of Champions (8K) at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. with a time of 25:32.72.
  • Allen’s time was nine seconds faster than the next finisher
  • The U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Allen the Division I National Athlete of the Week.
  • This was Allen’s first cross-country competition in two years, and his first as a River Hawk.
  • UMass Lowell finished fourth overall out of 23 competing teams.
  • The River Hawks fell behind only Arkansas, who’s ranked #1 in the South Central Region, and Fordham and Brown who are ranked #10 and #11 respectfully in the Northeast Region.
  • UMass Lowell bested Yale, who’s ranked #5 in the Northeast Region

Female Performer of the Week
Silvia Del Fava, Senior, Lucca, NY

  • Silvia Del Fava finished first at the Br. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet Of Champions (6K) at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. with a time of 22:27.6.
  • Improved on personal best she set last year at Van Cortlandt Park by 17 seconds.
  • It was Del Fava’s first race of the season.
  • The Great Danes finished seventh out of 20 competing programs.

Men's Cross Country Notes

  • UMass Lowell won the I Br. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet Of Champions; Binghamton finished eighth and Albany placed tenth.  Ethan Hausamann was the highest placer for the Bearcats coming in at 29th, and Kyle Gronostaj led Albany finishing 48th.
  • In the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings, UMBC notches in at fourteenth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  In the Northeast Region, New Hampshire sits at #12 and Stony Brook resides at #15.
  • In the upcoming week, Albany, Binghamton, and UMBC Cross Country will head to Bethlehem, Pa. to take part in the Paul Short invitational at Lehigh.  Hartford, New Hampshire, and Stony Brook will participate in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown at Franklin Part, Mass.  Vermont is set to host UMass Lowell at Red Rocks Park in South Burlington.

Women's Cross Country Notes

  • Albany finished seventh at the Br. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet Of Champions and Binghamton took twelfth out of twenty competing teams.
  • The Great Danes and Bearcats went up against stiff competition in the Bronx, NY, including Princeton, who ranks fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and both Yale and Brown, who sit at seventh and 11th in the Northeast Region.
  • In the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings, UMBC remains at eleventh in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  New Hampshire sits at sixth in the Northeast Region, Stony Brook holds the #11 spot, and Albany comes it at #14 in the region.
