CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 2014 America East Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team was made up of student-athletes from eight of the nine America East member institutions. The All-Academic teams have ten members for each gender, except in the event of a tie, and is voted on by a committee of Sports Information Directors, Academic Advisors and FARs. Each nominee must meet the set standards of a cumulative 3.30 or better GPA, have been a starter or significant reserve this past year and participated in at least 50 percent of the teams meets in 2014.
2014 America East Women’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team
Silvia Del Fava, Albany, Sr. (Lucca, Italy)
- Tallied a 3.98 GPA in Urban Studies & Planning, Geography for her second All-Academic recognition this year (indoor track & field).
- USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic pick in 2013.
- Placed fourth in the championship section of the 10,000 at Penn Relays, with a new school record of 34:13.82.
- Won the 5,000 in the America East Outdoor Championships (16:48.18)
- Leads Albany in the 3,000 (9:58.45), and is second on the team in the 1,500 (4:40.92), while topping all league competitors in the in the 10,000, and is 23rd in the NCAA East region.
Katie Fanning, Albany, Sr. (Manlius, N.Y.)
- Posted a 3.98 GPA in Biology to earn America East Indoor Track All-Academic honors in 2014, 2013 and 2012, Cross Country All-Academic 2013, 2012 and 2011, and Outdoor Track All-Academic in 2013.
- Published author in the Journal of Neuroscience also works as a researcher at the RNA Institute.
- A 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner, she also earned Chancellor's Award for Excellence and was an America East Woman of the Year nominee.
- Place second overall in the 1,500 at the conference Outdoor Championships, breaking her own school record in 4:22.81.
- Ran on the victorious 4x800 relay at conference championships.
- Set a new personal best in the 800 (2:10.55) to rank fourth all-time in school history for outdoor.
Kathleen Klein, Binghamton, Sr. (Clifton Park, N.Y.)
- Earned a 3.89 in Graphic Design.
- Inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in April 2013.
- Helped lead the 4x100 team to a first-place finish at the 2014 America East Outdoor Championships, earning all-conference honors in the process.
- Part of the runner-up 4x400 team at the 2014 America East Outdoor Championships.
- Placed sixth in the 400 at the 2014 America East Outdoor Championships.
Megan Barry, Hartford, Sr. (South Yarmouth, Mass.)
- Accrued a 3.92 GPA in Biology to earn her second outdoor and sixth overall All-Academic recognition.
- America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll and University of Hartford President’s List.
- New England Champion in 10,000 meters.
- Runner-up at 2014 America East Outdoor Championship in 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs.
- Finished in the top-20 in each of her six races, and set the school record in the 10,000 with a time of 35:32.98 (2nd) and the 5,000 at the Colonial Relays (17:06.01).
Deborah Adelola, UMBC, Sr. (Lanham, Md.)
- Compiled a 3.40 GPA while studying for a degree in psychology.
- Named to the 2014 America East Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Team.
- Selected to the Dean’s List four times during her academic career and twice named to the league Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
- Recorded a career-best 400-meter dash time of 55.84 to win the gold medal in the 2014 AE Outdoor Championship to rank the second in school history.
- Anchored the Retriever 4x200 relay team to a new school record time of 1:37.23 at the Penn Relays and 4x400 squad to a gold medal at the conference championships at Vermont.
Olivia Burne, Stony Brook, Sr. (Palmerstone North, New Zealand)
- Accumulated a 3.85 GPA in Journalism en route to earning Dean’s List status six of seven semesters.
- A team captain, she is active in the Sayville New Life Community Church and is the President of The Supply.
- A top student-athlete within the league, has earned the recognition of America East Cross Country Scholar-Athlete twice and Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete, and has earned America East All-Academic honors for cross country and indoor track and field and America East Commissioner's Honor every semester possible.
- One of nine America East Woman of the Year nominees.
- Won an individual conference title in the final four America East Championship meets of her collegiate career (2013 outdoor 1500m, 2013 cross country, 2014 indoor 1000m, 2014 outdoor 1500m).
- Defended America East title in the 1,500 in an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:22.23.
Kirsten McGovern, UMBC, Sr. (Sykesville, Md.)
- Accumulated a 3.96 GPA while pursuing a degree in environmental science and a minor in linguistics, while also receiving an honors college certificate.
- Selected to the 2014 America East Cross Country All-Academic Team in the fall after receiving the honor in 2012 as well.
- Has been named to the President’s List five times for having a perfect 4.0 semester GPA, while also receiving a spot on the Dean’s List once.
- Competed in the 5k and 10k events for the Retrievers as a senior and posted a career-best time in the 10,000-meter event at the America East Championships by completing the run in 37:27.37, the fourth-best time in UMBC program history.
Christina Melian, Stony Brook, So. (Staten Island, N.Y.)
- Earned Deans List and Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition three-straight semesters off a 3.89 GPA in Health Science.
- Won the 3,000-meters in 10:01.73 at the Stony Brook Quad Meet and the1,500-meter run in 4:35.43 at the Wolfie Invite.
- Placed third and picked up all-conference accolades in the 1,500-meters in 4:32.27 at the America East Outdoor Championships (5/4).
- Reigning ECAC and junior national champion in the 3,000-meters.
Nikki Braceras, Vermont, So. (Essex Junction, Vt.)
- Sports a 3.96 GPA in Exercise & Movement Science.
- America East champion in the women's 10,000-meter run, crossing the finish line nearly 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and also finished seventh in the 5000-meter.
- Named the ECAC Co-Athlete of the Week on April 23.
- Finished second overall in the 10,000-meter at the Mt. SAC Relays and registered the third-fastest time in program history.
Alicia Clark, Vermont, So. (Pawlet, Vt.)
- Earned an impressive 3.97 GPA in Business Administration, helping her grab a spot on the league All-Academic Team to add to her collection (indoor track & field, cross country).
- Earned All-Conference honors, placing third in the outdoor 10000-meter run and eighth in the 5000-meter.
- Placed third overall in the 5K at the UNH Wildcat Invitational.
Yolanda Ngarambe, Vermont, Sr. (Marsta, Sweden)
- Tallied a 3.43 GPA in psychology to be named to the America East All-Academic Team for the second time this year (2014, indoor).
- Broke the America East Outdoor Championship record to defend her conference crown in the 800-meter run.
- Broke a 34-year-old school record in the 1500-meter by more than a full second at the Mt. SAC Relays and finished 11th in the 800-meter at Mt. SAC.
- Member of the school record 4x400-meter relay team that finished third at the New England Outdoor Championships.
Kirsten Weberg, Vermont, Sr. (East Aurora, N.Y.)
- Has accumulated a 3.93 GPA as an animal science major.
- Member of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track/Cross Country Team.
- Named one of nine nominees for the 2014 America East Woman of the Year Award.
- Captured the America East 3000-meter steeplechase title for the second time in the last three seasons.
- Won the steeplechase by nearly 30 seconds at the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational with a season-best time
2014 America East Men’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team
John DeLallo, Albany, Jr. (Marietta, N.Y.)
- Upheld a 3.80 GPA in physics to grab his second-consecutive America East Outdoor All-Academic award.
- Recognized as an America East Spring Scholar-Athlete 2013 and America East Winter Scholar-Athlete 2014.
- Led Albany with personal best in the 800 (1:50.37) and the 1,500 (3:54.58).
- Placed third at America East Outdoor Championships in the 800 and was part of the 4x800 squad that finished fourth.
Joe Miceli, Binghamton, So. (Miller Place, N.Y.)
- Earned a 3.61 during his short time at Binghamton in general studies courses.
- Inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2014.
- Earned all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the decathlon and placed fourth in the pole vault at the 2014 America East Outdoor Championships.
John Busque, Hartford, Sr. (Manchester, Conn.)
- Sports a 3.93 GPA in Health Sciences/PT and earns his second-straight All-Academic recognition in Outdoor Track and Field.
- Slated to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll and University of Hartford President’s List.
- Recently a 2014 All-New England for Outdoor Track selection as he finished fifth in the 10,000 at the New England Outdoor Championship.
- Finished sixth in the 10,000-meters at the America East Outdoor Championship with a school-record time of 31:22.53.
Erik Quitzau, Hartford, Sr. (Blackstone, Mass.)
- Notched a 3.81 GPA in Mechanical Engineering to be selected to the America East All-Academic team for his third time (indoor 2013, 2014).
- Slated to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll and University of Hartford President’s List.
- Set a Hartford record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.38 to finish fourth at the Yale Spring Invite.
- Finished fifth in the 110-hurdles at the Minuteman Invitational and at the Albany Spring Invite.
Wilson Adams, Maine, Jr. (Barrington, R.I.)
- Earned a 3.42 Bio Engineering GPA and was named a University of Maine Scholar Athlete for his efforts.
- Broke a 50-year old record in the hammer throw, breaking it not once but also reset the standard at the America East outdoor track and field championships with a mark of 57.66 meters.
- One of three Black Bears to earn an America East event championship, taking first in the hammer for a new personal best.
Kelton Cullenberg, Maine, Sr. (Chesterville, Maine)
- One of nine America East Man of the Year Nominees, accumulated a 3.91 GPA in Kinesiology & Physical Education over his four years at Maine.
- Earned the prestigious "M Club" Deen Smith Award for academic excellence and was named a Maine Scholar-Athlete.
- Ran a season-best 3:54.56 in the 1500 at Holy Cross while setting a new personal in the 5k at the Penn Relays for second place (14:25.06)
- Took first overall at the America East outdoor championship in the 5k with a time of 14:29.42.
Eric Schuler, UMBC, Jr. (Columbia, Md.)
- Preserved a perfect 4.00 GPA over his three years as a Retriever in computer science.
- Received a spot on the President’s List each of his seven semesters and was named the America East Men’s Cross Country Scholar Athlete.
- Competed in three different distance events for the Retrievers as a junior, including the 10,000-meter at the 2014 America East Championships (34:38.04).
- Posted a season-best 5k time of 15:12.28 at the Colonials Relays at William and Mary.
Christopher DeCarlo, New Hampshire, So. (Derry, N.H.)
- Has maintained a 3.92 in Civil Engineering during his two years as a Wildcat.
- Inducted into the 2014 National College Athletic Honor Society, Chi Sigma Alpha, and made the Dean's List in all three completed semesters.
- Placed in the top-eight of 10 events during the 2014 outdoor campaign.
- Finished first with the 4x100 meter relay team (43.76) at the Stony Brook Wolfie Invitational and took sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.52).
- Crossed the line at fifth in the conference meet in the 4x100 relay (42.52).
John Prizzi, New Hampshire, Jr. (Wyckoff, N.J.)
- Majors in Earth Sciences - Oceanography and has posted a 3.57,
- Inducted into the 2014 National College Athletic Honors Society, Chi Sigma Alpha and was named to the America East All-Academic Team during the 2013-14 indoor season and 2012-13 season
- Earned the individual title at the league championships in the steeplechase (9:06.44) and placed second in the 4x800 relay at the conference meet (7:34.77).
- Took eighth at the New England Championships in the 1,500-meter race (3:51.57)
- Was seventh in the steeplechase at Princeton University’s Larry Ellis Invitational, notching a school-record time of 8:47.30.
Martin Kallur, Vermont, So. (Falun, Sweden)
- Sports a spotless 4.00 Political Science grade point average, which earned him a spot on the indoor all-academic team.
- Earned All-New England honors in both the outdoor 110-meter hurdles and the pole vault.
- Placed second in the 110-meter hurdles at the America East Outdoor Championships with a school record time and added a fifth place finish in the pole vault.
- Placed third overall in the 110 hurdles at the Cal State LA Twilight Open.
