22 set to Participate in NCAA East Preliminaries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Several America East Outdoor Track and Field student-athletes will continue their 2014 season into the summer as 22 will participate in the upcoming NCAA East Region Preliminaries, May 29-31. Student-athletes from Albany, Binghamton, Maine, UMBC, New Hampshire, Stony Brook and Vermont will travel to Jacksonville this weekend. The top-48 performers in each event were invited to take part in the preliminary round, with the top-12 finishers advancing to the finals June 11-14th. Here’s a look at those track and field athletes who have earned post-season berths:

 Albany

  • Kathryn Fanning – will participate as the No. 34 seed in the 1500-meter run with a 4:22.81 qualifying time.
  • Silvia Del Fava – slated the No. 20 seed in the 10,000-meter race, earned a trip to the NCAAs with a mark of 34:13.26.
  • Tynelle Taylor-Chase – grabbed her spot as No. 47 in the 400-meter sprint, crossing the line at 59.70.
  • Jeremiah Obeng-Agyapong – will sprint in the 400 as the No. 31 seed as he qualified with a season-best 52.02.
  • Alexander Bowen – is set to participate as a top-10 seed at No. 8 in the high jump as he cleared the bar at 2.19 meters.
  • Nathan Hiett – the 2014 Rookie of the Year, will experience his first NCAA Regional in the pole vault (5.10m).

 Binghamton

  • Joe Miceli – takes the final slot in the pole vault competition with a mark of 5.07 meters this season.
  • Jacob Platel – earned himself a spot in the regionals at No. 38 with a hammer toss of 60.20 meters.

 Maine

  • Nathaniel Meade – enters the NCAA regional as the No. 31 seed in the triple jump with a qualifying time of 15.30 seconds.
  • Justin Gagne – hurled the shot put 17.85 meters to make the cut as the No. 33 seed in the NCAA East Region.

 UMBC

  • Vincent Rentzsch – tossed the javelin 66.09 meters in the regular-season to be seeded No. 32 in the NCAA East Preliminaries.
  • Dennison Long – will represent the Retrievers in two events as he raced to finishes of 10.36 (100m) and 20.89 (200m) to qualify for the NCAA prelims as the No. 26 and No. 27 seeds, respectively.
  • Andrew Smith – clocked in at 1:48.72 to earn the No. 19 seed in the 800-meter dash.
  • Trae Proctor –grabbed a top-20 seed in the 100-meter hurdles (13.88) for the No. 17 spot.

 New Hampshire

  • George Jumpp – tossed the hammer 60.28 meters to qualify as the No. 36 seed.
  • John Prizzi – cracked into the top-10 in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 8:47.39 for the No. 7 seed.
  • Rosemary Reade – will throw the hammer in the NCAA East Preliminaries as she qualified with a measure of 56.92 meters for the No. 31 seed.

 Stony Brook

  • Olivia Burne – will race as the No. 17 seed in the 1500-meter run as she qualified with a 4:19.58 time.
  • Christina Melian – makes her debut in the NCAA preliminaries with a mark of 16:11.88 in the 5000-meter run to be slated the No. 25 seed.

Vermont

  • Brittney St. Clair – cleared 1.80 meters to be slotted as the No. 16 seed in the High Jump.
  • Nika Oullette – looks to extend her career in the javelin with a mark of 46.55 meters to grab the No. 33 seed.
  • Yolanda Ngarambe – earned the No. 34 seed in the 800 with a time of 2:07.02.

 

The NCAA East Preliminary Round will take place over the course of three days at the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium from May 29-31. The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set for a June 11-14 timeframe at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
