The honors for America East men's lacrosse standounts continued to roll in this week with four earning national honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assocation (USILA), including Albany's Lyle Thompson, who was honored as the Division I Outstanding Player of the Year and the DI Outstanding Attackman Friday.
Additionally, Lyle Thompson was tabbed one of three first-team All-American attackman, along with his brother, Miles. Their cousin, Ty, was an honorable mention All-America choice as was UMBC's Matt Gregoire.
Also one of five Tewaraaton Award finalists, Lyle Thompson earned the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award, for DI Outstanding Player of the Year, for the first time, and the Lt. Col. J.L. (Jack) Turnbull Award, for Outstanding Attackman, for the second year in a row. The junior has compiled the top single season point total in DI history, earning 128 points well as tying the DI single season assists record with 77 and adding 51 goals. The two-time America East Player of the year became the first player in DI history to have a pair of 100+ point seasons after finishing with 113 last year.
Miles Thompson, also a Tewaraaton finlist, earned the second-highest single season point total in DI history this season, getting 82 goals, tying the top mark in a single season in DI, and 37 assists for 119 points. The All-America East First Team attack earned at least four points in 17 of 18 games this season. He was named Most Outstanding Player of this year's America East Championship.
Ty Thompson earned points in every Albany game this year, tallying 41 goals and 12 assists. The All-America East Second Team attack earned five goals each in victories over Syracuse and UMass and four goals in the America East title victory over UMBC.
Gregoire set a UMBC single-season goals record with 48 scored in his senior campaign. He broke the mark of 47, recorded by attackman Jason Smith in 1992. An America East First Team honors on the attack, he stands third in the nation with 3.20 goals scored per game and 18th in the country with 3.80 points per contest.
In total, America East has had 41 men's lacrosse All-Americans since 2007.
