CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Conference play in men's lacrosse began over the weekend and two players who helped their teams get off to 1-0 starts in league play are America East's weekly award winners this week:
Player of the Week
Miles Thompson, Jr., Attacker, Albany
- Tallied 13 points in two games last week.
- Scored three goals while assisting on three others to lead Albany to a 20-9 win over Vermont Saturday.
- Had four goals and three assists in the Great Danes' loss to Canisius.
- The Player of the Week honor is his second of the year and fourth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
Connor Gordon, R-Fr., Goalkeeper, UMBC
- Made 15 saves in UMBC's 12-11 overtime win over Stony Brook Friday.
- Stopped 58 percent of the shots he faced including Mike Rooney's point-blank attempt during a Stony Brook two-man advantage in overtime.
Around the League
- Albany, Binghamton and UMBC earned win in their conference openers over the weekend: Recap
- Pat Young's unassisted score with 10 seconds left in overtime gave UMBC (5-4) a 12-11 win over Stony Brook (4-6).
- Binghamton (3-5) scored seven-straight goals to overcome a four-goal deficit and beat Hartford (4-6), 11-10.
- Albany (4-4) snapped a two-game losing skid by scoring 20 goals for the second time this season in a 20-9 victory over Vermont (5-4).
- The Great Danes are ranked 16th and 18, respectively, in the USILA and Warrior Media polls this week.
- Lyle and Miles Thompson rank first and second nationally in points per game, averaging 6.88 and 6.25 respectively.
- Lyle leads the country in assists while Miles is tops in goals.
- Albany leads the nation scoring 15.75 goals per game.
- Conference play continues Saturday with Stony Brook hosting Vermont while Albany visits Hartford and Binghamton entertains UMBC Sunday.
