The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association announced its annual academic honors with many America East teams and student-athletes earning awards.
Five America East schools earned the National Academic Team Award. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year. Those institutions included Albany, Fairfield, Maine, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire.
42 America East student-athletes also were named to the 2013 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Collegiate National Division I Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
UMass Lowell led the way with 12 honorees, while Albany and Maine both had nine. Fairfield (7) and New Hampshire (5) also had student-athletes recognized.
Six America East student-athletes were named 2013 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Collegiate Division I Scholars of Distinction. These outstanding student-athletes have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
Albany had two student-athletes earn the honor in Molly Mariano and Taylor Schwoyer. Maine had four honorees including Natasha Ford, Francesca Rowley, Holly Stewar and Sydney Veljacic.
