CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Three softball standouts from three different teams are America East's weekly award winners for the fourth week of the season:
Player of the Week
Vicky McFarland, Jr., Outfielder, Albany
- Hit .421 (6-for-19) and walked twice as Albany went 4-2 last week.
- Scored six runs and drove in a pair.
Pitcher of the Week
Jessica Holte, Fr., Pitcher, UMBC
- Went 3-1 with a 1,70 ERA, allowing just six earned runs in 24 2/3 innings last week.
- Walked just one and struck out 11.
- Hurled first career shutout in 3-0 win over Drexel.
Rookie of the Week
Shelby Obert, Fr., Third Baseman, Maine
- Hit a team-best .471 last week.
- Scored four runs and drove in four.
Around the League
- UMBC (18-7) is off to its best start since 2006.
- The Retrievers win over Hampton Sunday was the 800th career win for head coach Joe French.
- Albany (7-5) went 4-2 last week to move over .500 for the season.
- Stony Brook (7-10) swept a double header from Sacred Heart.
- Conference play opens this weekend with Stony Brook hosting Albany, Hartford entertaining Maine and Binghamton visits UMass Lowell.
