Three Teams Garner #AEWLAX Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – America East women’s lacrosse teams posted an impressive 7-2 record in non-conference action last week. Vermont went 2-0, scoring a total of 39 goals, as Sydney Mas was named Offensive Player of the Week. Albany senior Kathleen Lennon led the Great Danes defensive charge in a win over Cornell to be named Defensive Player of the Week. Stony Brook standout freshman Courtney Murphy rounded out the awards with one of the best single game performances in school history in a win over Central Connecticut. Here are the week five award winners.

Offensive Player of the Week
Sydney Mas, Sr., A, Vermont
Bedford, N.Y.

  • Scored 12 goals over two games in a pair of wins for Vermont.
  • Started the week with six goals on 11 shots to go with two ground balls and six draw controls in a 19-10 win over Quinnipiac.
  • Added six more goals, including the eventual game winner, on 10 shots in a 20-3 win over Sacred Heart.
  • Finished the week with 12 goals on 21 shots for a .517 shooting percentage.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kathleen Lennon, Sr., M, Albany
Sea Cliff, N.Y.

  • Led the Albany defensive effort in a 17-10 win over Cornell.
  • Collected four ground balls, caused four turnovers and had eight draw controls, leading the Great Danes in all three categories.

Rookie of the Week
Courtney Murphy, Fr., A, Stony Brook
Shirley, N.Y.

  • Scored eight goals in a 20-5 win over Central Connecticut, the second-most in in Stony Brook single-game history, one goal behind the record.
  • The eight goals and eight points were game highs.
  • Scored the eight goals on just 10 shots.
  • Caused one turnover and limited CCSU to nine of 18 on clear attempts.

Around the League

  • Stony Brook is one win shy of their 100th in program history, with 36 of the 99 coming under Joe Spallina.
  • The Seawolves’ freshmen scored 16 of the 20 goals against Central Connecticut.
  • Vermont I continues its best start in program history at 7-1, outscoring opponents 141-57 this season.
  • New Hampshire’s Laura Puccia recorded her 100th career point against Fairfield.
  • UNH’s Nicole Grote tied her personal bests in both assists (4) and points (7) in a win over Colorado.
  • The Wildcats’ Laura McHoul recorded her 50th career assist and currently ranks 9th in UNH history in just 25 career games.
