CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Stony Brook swept Fordham in a three-game series of the weekend and then earned a sweep of the America East weekly baseball awards, the conference office announced Tuesday. Kevin Courtney was named Player of the Week, Frankie Vanderka earned Pitcher of the Week and Casey Baker took home Rookie of the Week. Here’s a look at the week four award winners:

Player of the Week
Kevin Courtney, Sr., 1B, Stony Brook
Lindenhurtst, N.Y.

  • Went 7-for-15 in a three-game sweep of Fordham, driving in four runs and collecting four extra base hits.
  • Courtney led the conference with an .800 slugging percentage, finishing with a .529 OBP and a .467 batting average.
  • Started the weekend with a 3-for-5 performance, coming just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. He drove in two runs, with a single, double and triple while scoring a pair of runs in a 6-0 series-opening win.
  • Scored two runs and drove in another in a 10-0 win in game two.
  • Finished the weekend by going 4-for-7, including a walk-off double down the right field line in the bottom of the 14th inning to give the Seawolves a 10-9 win.

Pitcher of the Week
Frankie Vanderka, Sr., P, Stony Brook
Levittown, N.Y.

  • Dominated Fordham in Stony Brook’s 6-0 win on Saturday, tossing a complete-game shutout.
  • All just three hits (all singles) and one walk while striking out 11.
  • Five of his 11 strikeouts came in the final three innings, during which he did not allow a hit.

Rookie of the Week
Casey Baker, Fr., Util., Stony Brook
Ronkonkoma, N.Y.

  • Had six hits in nine at-bats in his two starts during Stony Brook’s sweep of Fordham.
  • Went 3-for-3 and delivered an RBI single during Stony Brook’s 10-run fourth inning on Saturday.
  • Went 3-for-6 in Sunday’s series finale.
  • Worked a key walk in the 12th inning to keep the game alive, then scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

Around the League

  • Stony Brook earned its first three wins of the season with a sweep of Fordham.
  • Hartford junior Sean Newcomb tossing seven shutout inning, striking out eight in Hartford’s, 1-0, win against East Tennessee State.
  • UMBC went 1-2 in the Chanticleer Classic, with Riley Stephenson earning the lone win with 7.1 innings of shutout ball against UNC Greensboro.
  • Maine’s Kyle Silva belted a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game against Northeastern last week. The Black Bears later won in the 10th.
