Albany, UMBC and Vermont all posted home victories in America East men's basketball action this week while Stony Brook was the lone team to win on the road.
On Wednesday, Albany (12-11, 6-4 AE) moved into sole possession of third place in the conference standings with a 73-56 win over UMass Lowell (7-15, 5-5 AE).The Great Danes made 17-of-23 first half field goals and never looked back. Peter Hooley led the way with 21 points. Antonio Bivins and Akeem Williams each had 17 points for the River Hawks, who lost for the first time in three games.
UMBC (8-15, 4-6 AE) outscored New Hampshire (5-17, 3-6 AE), 44-28, in the second half en route to a 68-57 win, its third in its last four games. The Retrievers shot 57 percent in the second half and 52 percent for the game. Rodney Elliott scored 21 points to lead UMBC and Jacoby Armstrong's 14 paced UNH.
On Tuesday, Stony Brook (17-7, 9-1 AE) edged Binghamton (4-18, 1-9 AE) by 10 points in the second half en route to a 58-53 win over the Bearcats. Anthony Jackson had 16 to lead SBU while Dave Coley had 13 of his 14 points in the second half. Jordan Reed recorded a monster double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds for Binghamton.
Vermont (15-9, 9-1 AE) overwhelmed Maine (5-17, 3-6 AE) bulding a 17-point halftime lead before opening the second frame on a 23-3 run en route to a 93-65 win, its 11th in its last 12 games. Sandro Carissimo led four Catamounts in double figures with 20 points. Zarko Valjarevic's 19 led the Black Bears.
