A pair of America East pitchers have garnered preseason All-America nods from two different college baseball publications.

University of Maine senior pitcher Tommy Lawrence  has been named a Collegiate Baseball Daily / Louisville Slugger 2014 Preseason Third Team All-American.

Lawrence had a record-setting 2013 season for the Black Bears where he finished 11-3 on the season with a 2.32 ERA and a six complete game. He pitched 104.2 innings on the season with 78 strikeouts. Lawrence set the Maine school record for wins in a season and set the America East record for conference wins with eight.

Lawrence was named the 2013 America East and ECAC Pitcher of the Year. In addition, he was named to the America East First Team, the America East All-Tournament Team and was also selected to the Northeast Region First Team as well.

Hartford junior pitcher Sean Newcomb  was honored as a Baseball America Preseason All-American. Newcomb is one of four starting pitchers on the Third Team.

The Baseball America Preseason All-America teams are a product of a poll of major league scouting directors who make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential.

Throughout the fall, Newcomb has been touted as one of the top-50 draft picks in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, including ranked 19th in Baseball America's Top 50 list released in mid-October.

Last season with the Hawks, Newcomb was named to the America East First Team All-Conference after breaking a pair of records in 2013. The Middleboro, Mass., native struck out a school record 92 batters in 2013 with 78 of those strikeouts coming in league play which set a conference record. His 92 strikeouts included a single-game career-high of 12 against Binghamton which was the most by a single pitched in the league in 2013.
