CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – One weekend stands between America East swimmers and divers and the league championship, slated to take place at WPI in Worcester, Mass., February 13-16th, 2014. Here’s a look at the final 2013-14 Swimmer and Diver of the Week:
Swimmer of the Week
Caitlin Kelly, Jr., Binghamton
Warwick, N.Y.
- Helped power the Bearcats to a decisive 179-121 victory over Marist on Saturday in their final home meet of the season.
- Set the pool records in both the 50 and 100-free to highlight the afternoon.
- Swam the 50-free in a time of 23.72, good for third in the league.
- Won handily in the 100-free with a blistering time of 52.20, a new career-best that ranks fourth among America East swimmers.
- Anchored both the 200-medley and 400-free relay teams to victory, clocking in at 1:47.91 and 3:37.42, respectively.
Diver of the Week
Kara Capossela, Jr., Maine
Orono, Minn.
- Won both events against New Hampshire on Friday night.
- Took the one-meter with 245.10 points.
- Tallied 271.2 points in the three-meter.
- Recognition is her third of the year.
Around the League
- Naja Harvey of Maine won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.69) and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.00) against UNH.
- New Hampshire’s Jenna Bull placed first in the 50-free (25.18) and100-fly (56.59).
- The winning quartet consisting of Bull, Roberts, Suffel and Broderick swam the in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:37.54.
