Just two playing dates remain in the America East women's basketball season after four games on Saturday afternoon that included a record-setting performance, as Hartford, Stony Brook, Vermont and New Hampshire grabbed wins.
Hartford (11-16, 8-6) tied for the second most 3-pointers hit in a single America East game, knocking down 16 from long range in an, 80-64, win over UMBC (3-23, 2-12). Amber Bepko, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, hit a school-record seven of those, going for a game-high 25 points on Pink Zone Day as the Hawks raised money for breast cancer research. Teammate Shanise Bultron his six 3-pointers for 18 points. UMBC freshman Sara Tarbert went for 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Retrievers.
Stony Brook (20-7, 11-3) matched a program Division I record with 20 wins, topping Maine (14-13, 8-6), 73-65, at Pritchard Gym. Sabre Proctor scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Seawolves. Stony Brook led 61-59 with five minutes left, using an 8-2 stretch over the next four minutes to seal the game that including four points from Brittany Snow.
Vermont (7-20, 4-10) locked up the No. 6 seed in the America East Championship with a, 74-48, win over Binghamton (4-23, 1-13). The Catamounts were led by senior Sam Simononis scored a game-high 13 points on "Senior Day" at UVM. Vermont led 26-24 with 6:40 left in the first half before a 13-1 run opened the game up for the Catamounts. Sheraw Swinson led Binghamton with 13 points.
Corinne Coia scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as New Hampshire (18-9, 12-2) completed the season sweep of UMass Lowel (5-21, 4-11), 78-71, Saturday. The Wildcats have won 14 of their last 16 contests and have their best overall and conference record since 1998-99.
