The top four teams in the America East men's basketball standings posted wins on Wednedsay with Vermont, Stony Brook, Hartford and Albany all picking up victories.
Vermont (18-8. 12-1 AE) held New Hampshire (6-20, 4-9 AE) to a season-low 23 percent shooting en route to a 79-44 victory. The Catamounts, winners of seven straight games and 14 of their last 15, outscored the Wildcats, 42-16, in the first half. Clancy Rugg's 18 points led UVM while Candon Rusin had 11 points, including the 1,000th of his career.
Stony Brook (19-8, 11-2 AE) closed the first half on a 21-7 run against UMBC (9-18. 5-9 AE) on its way to a 72-53 win over the Retrievers, the Seawolves 10th win in their last 12 games. With the victory, head coach Steve Pikiell became Stony Brook's all-time wins leader. The Seawolves got 35 points from their bench, led by Jameel Warney's 18. Brett Roseboro had a career-high 20 points to pace UMBC.
Hartford (14-14, 8-5 AE) jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead and held off a late charge from UMass Lowell (8-18, 6-8 AE) and held off a late River Hawk charge en route to a 75-68 win. The Hawks, who shot 58 percent from the field, have won four-straight games, their longest win streak of the season. Mark Nwakamma's 16 points paced Hartford while Akeem Willams' game-high 18 led UMass Lowell.
Albany (14-13, 8-6 AE) held Binghamton (6-20, 3-10 AE) to just 21 second-half points en route to a 57-48 win. Peter Hooley's 13 points led the Great Danes, winners of three of their last five, and Gary Johnson chipped in with 12. Jordan Reed had a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead Binghamton.
