Home teams went 3-1 in America East men's basketball action on Saturday with Albany, Hartford and Vermont winning on their home courts. Stony Brook was the lone team to win on the road.
Albany (13-13, 7-6 AE) jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and held off a second-half charge from Maine (5-20, 3-10 AE) in a 73-64 win. The Great Danes held the Black Bears to just one field goal over the game's last 8:40 after Maine had trimmed the lead to one. Peter Hooley scored a game-high 21 points to pace Albany while Zarko Valjarevic led five Black Bears in twin figures with 15 points.
Hartford (13-14, 7-5 AE) got a career-high 25 points from Mark Nwakamma en route to a 61-59 victory over New Hampshire (6-19, 4-8 AE). The win was the third straight for the Hawks, who trailed by as many as six in the game. Patrick Konan's had 15 points off the bench to lead UNH.
Vermont (17-9, 11-1 AE) jumped out to a 21-6 lead and never looked back en route to a 76-52 win over UMBC (8-16, 5-8 AE). The Catamounts, winners of six straight and 13 of their last 14, held the Retrievers to just 33 percent shooting in the win. Clancy Rugg had 19 points to pace UVM.
Stony Brook (18-8, 10-2 AE) won for the ninth time in 11 games, beating UMass Lowell (8-17, 6-7 AE), 78-68, on the road. The Seawolves used an 18-6 early second-half run to pull away. Jameel Warney had 19 points and seven boards to lead SBU while Dave Coley had his first career double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds). Akeem Williams scored a game-high 20 points for UML and became the fifth player in River Hawk history to go over the 2,000-point mark.
