Hooley, Apfeld Named Academic All-District Choices

Two of America East's top men's basketball players have been honored for their combination of athletic prowess and academic achievement. University at Albany's Peter Hooley and University of Vermont's Luke Apfeld were named to the Capital One NCAA Division I Academic All-District I First Team as chosen by CoSIDA this week. The duo is now eligible for Academic All-America status.

Hooley, a sophomore guard, leads Albany in scoring with 14.7 points per game, which ranks fifth in the league overall. He also ranks second in the America East in league-only scoring with 15.6 points per game.In the classroom, Hooley carries a 3.51 GPA as a double major in journalism and psychology.

Apfeld, a senior forward, has started 19 of 21 games for Vermont and is averaging 7.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest. The America East men's basketball Scholar-Athlete last year, Apfeld graduated with 3.83 GPA as double major in English and sociology and is now enrolled in graduate school.

CoSIDA's Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
