McCarley, Sina Net Women's Basketball Week 7 Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With teams returning from holiday break, conference play is just around the corner with games beginning on Jan. 3. The final week of solely non-conference play saw one of the most complete performances from an America East player this season to earn Player of the Week honors, while Binghamton freshmen continue to dominate the Rookie of the Week award. Here are the week seven award winners:

Player of the Week
Taylor McCarley, UMBC, So., G, Bowie, Md.

  • Registered career-highs of 19 points and six steals to help UMBC snap a two-game skid with a win at UMES in the Retrievers' lone game last week.
  • Also had a season-high seven assists and pulled down five rebounds. 
  • Shot 55.6 percent from the floor and connected on eight of her 10 free throw attempts. 
  • UMBC is 4-0 when McCarley scores in double figures.

Rookie of the Week
Jasmine Sina, Binghamton, Fr., G, Lake Hoptacong, N.J.

  • In Binghamton's only game last week, Sina scored 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting including 3-of-3 from 3-point range in a loss to Bucknell.
  • Pulled down five rebounds and had a career-high five steals, the most for a Bearcat player this season.
  • She entered the game ranked No. 11 in the country with 3.3 made 3-point field goals per game.

Notes

  • Stony Brook is 5-0 at Island FCU Arena this season.
  • Albany's Shereesha Richards has reached double figures in 12-straight games and has five double-doubles this season.
  • New Hampshire's 8-3 start is the best for the Wildcats since 2005-06 when they started 9-2.
  • Binghamton's Jasmine Sina is 11th in the NCAA with 3.3 made 3-point field goals per game.
  • UMBC's Capree Garner has four 20+ point scoring efforts and has reached double figures in all ten of her games this season.
  • Both Stony Brook's Kori Bayne-Walker and Vermont's Jordan Eisler had 10 assists in a game in non-conference play. It is the 1st time since 2012-13 that two different America East players registered 10 or more assists in non-conference games.
  • The America East has three wins vs. Power 5 Conferences - 2 vs. Big Ten (Albany and Hartford def. Penn State) and one vs. ACC (Maine def. Boston College). It is the first time since 2009-10 the America East has three wins over Power 5 teams.
  • The 29 points by Imani Watkins vs. Rider is the most points scored by a Bearcat player since Orla O'Reilly also scored 29 points against Siena on Nov. 15, 2011.
