Bayne-Walker, Watkins Earn Week 6 WBB Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The sixth week of the women's college basketball season saw some great performances from guards as two different players registered 10 assists. Here are the week six award winners:

Player of the Week
Kori Bayne-Walker, Stony Brook, So., G, Rochester, N.Y.

  • Averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 92.3 percent from the free throw line in a 1-1 week for the Seawolves.
  • Ranked fourth in scoring, sixth in rebounding and first in assists in the America East last week.
  • Flirted with a triple-double in a win over Patriot League power Lafayette, scoring 12 points, dishing out 10 assists and collecting nine rebounds for her first career double-double.
  • Led the Seawolves with a career-high 25 points in a loss at Wagner, also finishing with eight rebounds and four assists in the game.

Rookie of the Week
Imani Watkins, Binghamton, Fr., G, High Point, N.C.

  • Averaged a conference-high 21.5 points per game last week to go with 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 47.2 percent from the floor.
  • Poured in a career-high 29 points in the Bearcats' 72-67 win over Rider on Sunday afternoon, going 11-for-22 from the floor and not committing a single turnover in 39 minutes.
  • The 29 points were the most for a Binghamton player since Orla O'Reilly also had 29 points against Siena on Nov. 15, 2011.
  • Watkins also had 14 points and five assists in a loss at home to Siena.

Notes

  • Albany's Tiana-Jo Carter registered her first career double-doubel vs. Quinnipiac last week.
  • Albany's Shereesha Richards registered her 11th-straight double-digit scoring game with 13 against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
  • UMBC's Capree Garner has four 20+ point scoring efforts and has reached double figures in all nine of her games this season.
  • Both Stony Brook's Kori Bayne-Walker and Vermont's Jordan Eisler had 10 assists in a game last week. It is the 1st time since 2012-13 that two different America East players registered 10 or more assists in non-conference games.
  • The America East has three wins vs. Power 5 Conferences - 2 vs. Big Ten (Albany and Hartford def. Penn State) and one vs. ACC (Maine def. Boston College). It is the first time since 2009-10 the America East has three wins over Power 5 teams.
  • The 29 points by Imani Watkins is the most points scored by a Bearcat player since Orla O'Reilly also scored 29 points against Siena on Nov. 15, 2011.
