Wood, Tate & Sina Earn Women's #AEHoops Week 3 Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Maine Black Bears had an impressive weekend, winning the Maine Thanksgiving Tournament for the first time since 2006 and beating an ACC opponent for the first time since 2007 to lock-in Co-Player of the Week accolades. Meanwhile, Albany earned a non-conference road win before Thanksgiving behind one of the best shooting performances in the conference in the last six years. Binghamton freshmen continued to impress, earning Rookie of the Week honors for the third-straight week. Here are the week three award winners:

Co-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Imaine Tate, Albany, So., G, Bronx, N.Y.

  • Scored 21 points to go with six rebounds and three steals in a win over Canisius in Albany’s only game last week.

  • Went 9-of-10 from the floor, the highest shooting percentage for an America East player since UMBC’s Sara Tarbert went 10-of-11 on Feb. 11, 2014 vs. Albany and the second-highest for any America East player since 2008-09.

  • 16 of her points came in the second half. She came just two points shy of her career-high.

Co-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Liz Wood, Maine, Jr., Forward, Catlett, Va.

  • Led Maine to the Black Bear Thanksgiving Tournament title for the first time since 2006 with wins over Brown and Boston College.

  • Averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists in two games while shooting 55.2% from the floor and 46.7% from 3-point range.

  • Scored a career-high 25 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three in a win over Brown.

  • Totaled 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists in an overtime win against Boston College, Maine’s first win against an ACC opponent since 2007 (Miami).

  • Named Thanksigivng Tournament MVP.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jasmine Sina, Binghamton, Fr., Guard, Lake Hoptacong, N.J. 

  • Led all freshmen in scoring last week, averaging 13.7 points per game in an 0-3 week for the Bearcats.

  • Also averaged 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 42.9% (12-of-28) from 3-point range.

  • Scored 15 points, hitting five 3-pointers in a loss to Niagara, adding three rebounds and two assists. 

  • Notched a career-high 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three in a loss to St. John’.

Notes

  • Maine won its first Thanksgiving Tournament since 2006 with wins over Brown and Boston College. The victory over the Eagles was the team's first over an ACC school since 2007 (Miami).
  • Albany women's basketball recorded its 200th win in Division I, 64-59, over Canisius.
  • UMBC's Capree Garner has reached double figures in all five games this season.
  • Hartford's Cherelle Moore was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament team after averaging 19.0 points and 7.3 rebounds over three games.
  • Albany has been ranked in the top-ten of the Mid-Major Top-25 for 20-straight weeks.
  • Binghamton has won three-straight Rookie of the Week honors for the first time since 2008-09.
