The 2014 America East Volleyball Championship begins Friday afternoon on the campus of the University of New Hampshire with two semifinal games. No. 2 Binghamton and No. 3 Albany get things started at 3 p.m. followed by No. 1 New Hampshire and No. 4 Stony Brook at 6 p.m. Both matches will be available free on AmericaEast.TV.

Championship Notes

  • The No. 1 seed has advanced to the final 19 times in 23 years. The last time it happened was in 2005.
  • The top-two seeds have advance to the final each of the last two years.
  • The No. 2 seed is 9-8 vs. the No. 3 seed since the tournament moved to four teams in 1997.
  • This is the first time since 2010 that all three SUNY schools have qualified for the tournament. It also happened three-straight years from 2005-07.
  • The home team has won 14 titiles with only six road teams winning since the tournament moved to its current format in 1993.

  • Albany is playing in its America East record 13th-straight championship.
  • The Great Danes have won either the regular season or tournament title nine of the last 10 years
  • Albany missed the title game for the first time since 2006 last year.
