CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Albany, Binghamton, and UMBC all took part in the Paul Short College Invitational at Lehigh University on October 4th.
Male Performer of the Week
Hassan Omar, Junior, Frederick, Maryland
- UMBC’s Hassan Omar, Jr., was the top America East competitor at the Paul Short Collegiate Invitational Gold Race (8K), finishing 35th overall.
- Omar ran the race in 24:37, his best time this season on an 8K course.
- UMBC finished 12th out of 42 competing teams, just two points behind Columbia University, who’s ranked seventh in the North East Region.
Female Performer of the Week
Silvia Del Fava, Senior, Lucca, Italy
- Silvia Del Fava led the Great Danes in the 41st annual Paul Short Collegiate Invitational (6K), finishing the course with a time of 20:21. Del Fava improved her personal and school best 6K time by three seconds. The record had previously been set at last year’s Northeast Regional Championships.
- Del Fava was the top performer for the America East Conference, leading the Albany Great Danes to a 20th place finish.
- Del Fava, and the Great Danes team raced against tough competition, including Florida State who is ranked sixth in the nation according to the latest USTFCCCA National Poll.
Men's Cross Country Notes
- UMBC was the top finisher for the America East at the Paul Short College Invitational Gold Race (8K) placing 12th. Binghamton took 18th place, junior Ethan Hausamann pacing the Bearcats with a 40th place finish at 24:40. The Great Danes turned in at 21st place, and were led by senior Christopher Buchaman who ran the course in 24:51.
- In the latest USTFCCCA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings, UMBC moved up four spots in the Mid-Atlantic Region, now sitting tenth. Everything stays put in the Northeast Region; Stony Brook stands firm at number 13, and New Hampshire holds the fort in 12th.
- Next up for America East Cross country; Hartford, Maine, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire, and Vermont compete in the New England Championships on October 11th at Franklin Park Boston, Massachusetts.
Women's Cross Country Notes
- Albany and UMBC ran in the Gold Race at Lehigh University, with the Great Danes placing 20th and the Retrievers of UMBC coming in at 25th. UMBC was led by Junior Sarah Daly, who ran the 6K course in 21:08. Albany and UMBC went against stiff competition in the Gold Race, racing against 19 regionally ranked schools, and three of which are nationally ranked as well.
- The Binghamton took part in the Brown Race, coming in tenth out of 40 competitors. The Bearcats were led be Alexis Hatcher for the third straight race. Henry completed the course with a time of 22:01.
- The latest USTFCCCA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings, UMBC sits pat at 11th in the Mid-Atlantic Region. In the Northeast Region, New Hampshire stays in fifth, and Stony Brook remains in 13th.
- Hartford, Maine, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire, and Vermont are set to compete in the upcoming New England Championships on October 11th at Franklin Park Boston, Massachusetts.
