Three America East women's soccer standouts have been named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams, the organization announced Thursday. Albany's Krista Fitzpatrick and Hartford Emma Donnelly were both named to the District I First Team while UMBC's Nikki Boretti was named to the District II First Team.
All three were named to the America East All-Academic Team earlier this week and all three will compete in the America East semifinals on Sunday afternoon.
Donnelly, a Kanata, Ontario native, sports a 3.92 grade point average as a biomedical engineering major in the College of Arts and Sciences and has helped lead Hartford to its first America East regular season championship since 2006.
As a member of the Hawks' back line, Donnelly has helped lead Hartford to nine shutouts and an impressive 0.77 goals-against-average, a mark that ranks among the top 50 in the nation in the latest NCAA report (Oct. 30). Donnelly and the Hawks have allowed just 14 goals in 17 games.
Fitzpatrick stands with a 3.96 GPA with a double major in sociology and criminal justice. She is the first-ever UAlbany women’s soccer player to earn CoSIDA Division I All-District Honors.
On the field, the midfielder stands seventh in the America East in scoring with 15 points off five goals and five assists, including a pair of multiple-goal games this season. She earned a place on the 2014 America East All-Academic Team with her performance.
Boretti, one of only two Division I District 2 honorees with a perfect 4.0 GPA, marks the first Retriever to earn the honor since Liam Paddock was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men's Soccer First Team. As an All-District First Team member, Boretti advances to the Academic All-America vote, which will be released in November.
On the field, Boretti has not missed a start in two seasons and has combined for 13 points on five goals and three assists. This season, she has posted career-bests in points (seven) and goals (three), while also helping the Retrievers to their lowest goal allowance in program history (11).
The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
Members of the All-District First Teams are automatically eligible for the All-America team, with voting for All-America beginning on November 4. The All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, November 25.
