Albany's Vega Voted #AEWSOC Fans' Choice Player of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Receiving 1,819 of the record 7,313 votes, Albany freshman forward Vivian Vega was voted 2014 America East Women's Soccer Fans' Choice Player of the year.

Vega received 24.87 percent of the vote to earn the honor. Maine's Claudia Dube-Trempe finished second with 19.44 percent (1,422 votes) of the vote and UMBC's Jen Nance took third with 17.27 percent (1,263 votes). It is the first time an Albany student-athlete has been named women's soccer Fans' Choice Player of the Year.

Vega led the high-powered Albany offense with eight goals and five assists to total 21 points. She led all freshmen in both points and assists while helping Albany earn the No. 4 seed in the America East tournament which begins with quarterfinal action on Thursday, October 30.

This is the sixth-straight year America East has given out a Fans' Choice Player of the Year award  in women's soccer with Binghamton's Mandi Casares (2009), Hartford's Amelia Pereira (2010 and 2012) and Caitlin Alves (2011), and UMBC's Alexa Quaranta (2013) earning past awards. 

Voting for the 2014 award was from October 23-28 with one player of each member institution named to the ballot. The America East All-Conference teams will be announced via release at AmericaEast.com at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
