Four Juniors Highlight Men's #AEHoops Preseason All-Conference Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Five conference standouts from four teams, including four juniors, highlight the 2014-15 America East Men’s Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. The five-player team was voted on by the nine men’s basketball coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

The team includes 2013-14 America East Player of the Year in Stony Brook University junior Jameel Warney along with teammate and classmate Carson Puriefoy. Joining the Seawolf tandem is University of Hartford senior Mark Nwakamma, a first team selection a year ago and the lone senior named to the team. Albany junior and America East Championship Most Outstanding Player, Peter Hooley, and Binghamton junior Jordan Reed round out the selections. All five honorees were either first or second-team all-conference selections a year ago.

Peter Hooley, Albany, Jr., G, Adelaide, Australia
  • Hooley, an All-Conference Second Team selection, averaged 15.5 points per game while shooting 39.8-percent from the floor.
  • He led Albany to a second-straight America East title, averaging 23.7 points per game while shooting 52.2 percent from 3-point range and 48.9 percent from the field to garner tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.
  • Led the conference in minutes played (35.1 per game), ranked second in scoring and third in 3-point field goals made.
Jordan Reed, Binghamton, Jr., G/F, Philadelphia, Pa.
  • Reed led the conference in rebounding (8.9 per game) and ranked third in scoring (15.4 ppg) last season.
  • He was named to the All-Conference Second Team after ranking in the top-10 in three key defensive categories: rebounds (first), steals (third) and blocks (seventh).
  • Reed averaged 1.6 steals per game and 2.5 offensive rebounds per game.
Mark Nwakamma, Hartford, Sr., F, Leander, Texas
  • Nwakamma was an All-Conference First Team selection last season, becoming the first Hawk to earn the distinction twice.
  • The league’s active leading scorer (1,212 points) finished fourth in the league in scoring (15.3 ppg) and sixth in rebounding (5.8 rpg).
  • He shot 52.8 percent from the floor, good for sixth in the league.
Carson Puriefoy, Stony Brook, Jr., G, Wenonah, N.J.
  • Coming off the bench last season, Puriefoy provided a spark for the Seawolves, averaged 12.9 points per game which ranked ninth in the conference.
  • He led the team in assists, averaging 2.8 per game, while also ranking fourth in the conference in steals with 46.
  • Puriefoy was named to the All-Conference Second Team as a sophomore, shooting 43.3 percent from 3-point range and 80.3 percent from the charity stripe.
Jameel Warney, Stony Brook, Jr., F, Plainfield, N.J.
  • The 2013-14 America East Player of the Year, Warney led the Seawolves and ranked sixth in the conference with a 14.5 points per game average while coming in third in rebounding (8.0 rpg).
  • He became just the fourth player in conference history to be named Player of the Year as a sophomore after winning Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
  • Warney ranked among the best in the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 61.6 percent from the floor which led the conference and ranked fifth in the country.
