Four Standouts Take Home #AEFH Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Albany and Maine improved to 3-0 in America East field hockey action over the weekend while UNH improved to 2-1. Additionally, teams went 4-0 in non-league games, which included the 20th-ranked Black Bears beating 15th-ranked Northeastern. Here are the league's award winners from week eight:

Player of the Week
Lindsey Nerbonne, New Hampshire, So., Midfielder, Bow, N.H.

  • Had six points on three goals in a pair of games last week, both UNH wins.
  • Scored twice to key a 5-1 win over Vermont Friday.
  • Tallied the lone score, a blast at 4:21 overtime, to lift her team to a 1-0 win over UNH Sunday.

Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Corbett, Maine, So., Goalkeeper, Listowel, Ontario

  • Allowed just one goal on seven shots in leading Maine to two wins last week.
  • Made five stops in Maine's 2-1 overtime win at 15th-ranked Northeastern Sunday.

Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Kelsey Federico, UMass Lowell, Fr., Goalkeeper, Windham, N.H.

  • Allowed two goals on 21 shots and racked up a .905 save percentage with 19 saves.
  • Kept her team in the game with 11 saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to No. 20 Maine.
  • Had eight saves in the River Hawks' 1-0 win over Dartmouth Sunday.

Rookie of the Week
Jackie Gillen, Vermont, Fr., Midfielder, Middletown, Del.

  • Racked up five points in two games last week.
  • Factored in on both scores in UVM's 2-1 overtime win over Davidson Sunday, forcing overtime with a goal with 13 seconds left and setting up the game winner with an assist.

  • Albany (11th) and Maine (20th) were both ranked in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll last week.
  • The Great Danes improved to 13-2 on the season and have won seven in a row.
  • Maine has won eight-straight games, its best stretch since 2011.
  • Maine's win at 15th-ranked Northeastern Sunday was its first over a ranked team since beating Albany in 2011.
  • Paula Heuser leads the conference and ranks among national leaders with 45 points (19 G, 7 A).
  • Vermont has won two of its last three games after dropping its first 11 games of the year.
  • Albany and Maine meet with first place in the league standings on the line Saturday in Albany.
