Four Standouts Earn #AEVB Week 8 Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Another week of America East volleyball is in th books and there were more shakeups in the standings. New Hampshire took over first place with a pair of wins, leading Albany and Binghamton by just a game in the standings. Here are the week eight award winners:

Player of the Week
Allison Hovie, Binghamton, So., Outside Hitter, Neenah, Wis.

  • Only player to rank in the top-seven of the conference in kills, hitting percentage and digs in a 1-0 week for the Bearcats.
  • Ranked second in kills (4.00 per set), seventh in hitting percentage (.320) and fourth in digs (5.33 per set) as an outside hitter.
  • Totaled 12 kills, 16 digs and two aces on a .320 hitting percentage in a straight-set win against UMBC.
  • Notched her third-straight double-double and third match of the year with at-least 15 digs.

Co-Setter of the Week
Amanda Dettmann, Binghamton, Sr., Setter, Milwaukee, Wis.

  • Ranked second in the conference with 11.33 assists per set while also averaging 4.67 digs per set to lead all setters in a 1-0 week for the Bearcats.
  • Had a double-double with 34 assists and 14 digs in a straight-set win over UMBC.
  • Quarterbacked the team to a .262 hitting percentage, the third-best in the league last week.
  • Surpassed the 3,900 career assist mark in the match.

Co-Setter of the Week
Taylor Dunklau, New Hampshire,Sr., Setter, Mukwonago, Wis.

  • Ranked third in the conference with 10.88 assists per set while helping New Hampshire to a 2-0 week.
  • Paced the Wildcat offense to a .263 hitting percentage, the second-best in the America East last week. 
  • Registered 49 assists and orchestrated the UNH offense to a season-high .301 hitting percentage vs. Stony Brook. 
  • Posted 38 assists and eight digs in a win over Hartford.

Rookie of the Week
Alexis LaGoy, Binghamton, Fr., Middle Hitter, Baldwinsville, N.Y.

  • Led the conference in hitting percentage (.533), ranked second in blocks (1.67 per set) and fifth in kills (3.00 per set) in a 1-0 week for Binghamton.
  • Totaled nine kills and four blocks on a .533 hitting percentage in a straight-set win against UMBC.
  • Led all freshmen in kills, blocks and hitting percentage.

Notes

  • Binghamton is 7-3 in last 10 matches at home (75-39, .660 since 2002). The Bearcats won back-to-back games for the second time this season.
  • Stony Brook's Melissa Rigo became the ninth player in program history to record 1,000 kills with her 14th kill vs. New Hampshire Saturday
  • UMBC senior Hannah Schmidt (Catonsville, Md.) recorded her 1,000th career kill on Sunday at Binghamton. Schmidt is only the eight player in program history to achieve the feat.
  • Stony Brook Lo Hathaway tallied her Div. I school-record 1,361st career dig in the third set vs. New Hampshire. She passed Claire Linder, who tallied 1,360 digs from 2003-06. 
  • New Hampshire took over sole possession of 1st place, sitting a 5-1 and one game ahead of Binghamton and Albany.
