Albany (17-3, 7-0) continued its conference winning streak, beating UMBC (1-7, 2-18), 65-39, in America East women's basketball on Tuesday night.
The Great Danes have won 30-straight conference regular-season games and 35-straight games over America East opponents including tournament play. Tammy Phillip led Albany over UMBC with a career-high 17 points to go with nine rebounds and six steals. Albany held UMBC without a field goal over the opening seven minutes and built a 27-4 advantage.
The Retrievers were led by Sara Tarbert, who scored in double figures for the fourth-straight game with 12. UMBC held Albany to its lowest scoring total of the conference season at 65.
Two games are on the schedule Wednesday night, both tipping off at 7 p.m. Vermont (6-14, 3-4) hosts Hartford (7-13, 4-3), looking to snap a four-game skid against the Hawks. Hartford is riding a three-game winning streak, the longest of the season for the team heading into the contest.
New Hampshire (11-8, 5-1) visits Maine (10-10, 4-3) at the Cross Insurance Center on AmericaEast.TV at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are off to their best start in conference play since 1996-97 at 5-1. Kristen Anderson of UNH and Courtney Anderson of Maine will compete against each other for the first time in their collegiate careers. Kristen, a freshman, has averaged 6.1 ppg in her first season with the Wildcats. Courtney, a junior, tallies 2.7 ppg this season for the Black Bears. The sisters have both appeared in 19 games this season.
