UMBC Sweeps Week #8 Swimming and Diving Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a light week for America East Swimming and Diving teams, a repeat winner takes home the Diver of the Week honors. Here’s a look at this week’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week:


Swimmer of the Week
Catherine Frediani, So., UMBC
Ellicott City, Md.

  • Won her first two meet events of the year by capturing the 100 and 200 free races against Howard.
  • Helped the 200-medley and 200-free relay teams win the respective events.
  • Was victorious in the 100-free, clocking in at 54.05.
  • Swam the 200-free with a time of 1:55.74, a season-best for the sophomore.

Diver of the Week
Corinna Darelius, So., UMBC
Rye, N.Y.

  • Swept the diving events as UMBC defeated Howard.
  • Has won five dual meets this season, sweeping the competition at the same meet twice.
  • Set a career-high in the three-meter competition with a score of 272.47.
  • Won the one-meter event with a score of 237.67.
  • On January 4th in Coral Springs, Fla., she qualified for the NCAA Zones by scoring 271.95 on the one-meter while competing against George Mason, Penn State and West Virginia.
  • Her trip to the NCAA Zones will be her second-straight to the regional meet after qualifying as a freshman.

Around the League

  • Maine’s Swimming and Diving teams defeated Bates College on December 7th, 2013.
  • Lauren Dwyer of Maine had first place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (53.85) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.72).
  • Naja Harvey and Erica Smrcina of Maine each added a first place finish against Bates.
  • Maine’s freshman diver Hayli Weitz took second in the one-meter with a score of 220.88 and finished third in the three-meter at 197.33.
  • Maine’s Kara Capossela won the three-meter with a score of 273.68.
  • Binghamton took on Bucknell last weekend.
  • Binghamton’s Caitlin Kelly was a part of three victories, including a pair of first-place finishes in relays. She earned first in the 50-free with an impressive time of 24.19.
  • Shannon Lampe of Binghamton had a pair of strong races on Sunday, scooping up a victory in the 500 free and finishing second in the 200 IM.
  • The Bearcats’ Corinne Zotter won in gutsy fashion in the 200 breast, fighting through fatigue to win with a time of 2:26.53.
