Albany improved to 12-3 and 2-0 in conference play with a, 69-52, win at Hartford (4-12, 1-2) in a rematch of the 2013 America East title game at Chase Family Arena in West Hartford, Conn., on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Shereesha Richards continue her standout play, leading the way with 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for the great Danes. Hartford was led by Cherelle Moore, who scored a career-high 21 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Albany played tough defense against the Hawks, forcing turnovers and missed shots that led to a 22-4 run that opened up a 26-10 lead that the Great Danes would never relinquish. Albany held Hartford to 6-of-20 shooting in the first half and forced 11 turnovers.
Hartford cut the deficit to single digits once in the second half, coming within eight following a Morgan Lumb jumper with 14:20 to go. Albany then built its biggest lead of the game, outscoring the Hawks 20-8 over the next 8:30 to claim a 53-33 lead to put the game away.
One game is on the America East schedule for Monday as UMass Lowell hosts Mount Ida at 6 p.m. That game will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.TV.
