CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three players from America East's two hottest field hockey teams are the league's weekly award winners this week:
Player of the Week
Daphne Voormolen, Sr., Albany
Rotterdam, Netherlands
- Racked up four goals and three assists to lead Albany to three wins last week.
- Scored twice and added as many assists in a 6-0 win over Siena on Wednesday.
- Added a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over two-time defending Patriot League champion Lafayette Friday.
- Capped her week with a goal in Sunday's 4-1 win at Lehigh.
- Moved into third on Albanys all-time career goal list.
Defensive Player of the Week
Caitlyn Bennett, Fr., Fairfield
Fairfield, Conn.
- The freshman goalkeeper allowed one goal in leading the Stags to two wins last week.
- Made one stop in a 2-1 overtime win over crosstown-rival Fairfield on Friday.
- Stopped five shots to record her first career shutout in a 4-0 win over Siena Sunday.
Rookie of the Week
Julie de Paeuw, Fr., Fairfield
Chaumont Gistoux, Belguim
- Tallied seven points (3G, 1A) in Fairfield's two wins last week.
- Had the game-winning score in the Stags' 2-1 overtime win over Fairfield on Friday.
- Scored twice and set up a goal in Sunday's win over Siena.
Around the League
- Albany's won three games last week to improve to 8-0, its best start since moving to Division I in 2001.
- The Great Danes, one of just four unbeaten teams in the nation, are ranked 11th in the NFHCA/Penn Monto poll and should move up when the newest edition comes out Tuesday.
- The Great Danes have outscored opponents 37-6 this season and lead the nation averaging 4.6 goals per game.
- Fairfield (6-2), Maine (4-4), New Hampshire (3-4) and UMass Lowell (1-6) also picked up wins over the weekend.
- The Stags have won three games in a row, UNH has won two of its last three and the Black Bears four of their last five.
- The River Hawk's win was their first at the Division I level.
