CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The first week of women’s soccer action is in the books and seven America East teams recorded at-least one win, finishing with a 8-5-2 record. Here is a look at the first weekly award winners:
Player of the Week
Stella Norman, So., Stony Brook
Lakewood, Colo.
- Scored one goal and had three assists in a 1-0-1 week for the Seawolves.
- Netted the first goal of the season for Stony Brook, scoring on a free kick in a 2-2 tie in the season-opener against Seton Hall.
- Became the first Seawolf to record three assists in a game since the team joined the America East in 2001 in Stony Brook’s 6-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
Rookie of the Week
Anna Seneta, Fr., Albany
Massapequa N.Y.
- Finished the week with one goal to help Albany start the season 1-1-0.
- Scored the eventual game-winning goal in Albany’s 2-0 season-opening win against Florida Atlantic, tallying on her first collegiate shot.
- The goal helped head coach Caitlin Colfer earn her first win as Great Danes head coach.
Around the League
- Albany head coach Caitlin Colfer and New Hampshire head coach Sam Lopes each earned their first wins with their new teams.
- Maine goalkeeper Lauren Swant had two shutouts to help Maine start the year 2-0-0.
- Stony Brook’s Larissy Nysch (3 goals), Stella Norman (1 goal, 3 assists) and Emily Murrer (2 goals) are the top three in scoring in the conference.
- The 8-5-2 start in non-conference play is the best for the conference dating back prior to the 2006-07 season.
