CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After capturing its first ever America East title, the Stony Brook University women's lacrosse team will face Towson in the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship first round on Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in College Park, Md.
The announcement came during the 2013 NCAA selection show held on Sunday night on NCAA.com. The NCAA announced the 26-team field that features 13 conference champions and 13 at-large bids.
Eight sites will host first and second-round competition on May 10 and 12, and four quarterfinal games will be played May 18 or 19. These preliminary-round games will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Villanova University May 24 and 26 at Villanova Stadium in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The semifinal games will be shown live on ESPN3 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on May 24. The championship game will air live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. on May 26. The Seawolves (16-2) defeated Albany, 14-3, in the America East title game on Sunday afternoon to earn the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship. Stony Brook allowed just seven goals over the two games of the America East Championship, setting a new tournament record.
Towson (10-8) won the Colonial Athletic Association for the second-straight year, defeating Hofstra 9-3, to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament.
The winner of the Stony Brook-Towson game will take on No. 1 overall seed Maryland on Sunday, May 12 at noon.
