Stony Brook Faces Vermont, Albany Meets New Hampshire in Women's Lacrosse Semifinals

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- After a record-breaking regular season four America East women's lacrosse teams battle for the league title at Stony Brook University beginning with the semifinals on Friday, May 3.

No. 1 Stony Brook takes on No. 4 Vermont in the first semifinal at 4:30 p.m. followed by No. 2 Albany against No. 3 New Hampshire at 7 p.m. Both games will be streamed live for free on AmericaEast.com as Mike Solano and Leah Secondo will have the call.

The Seawolves enter the championship with their second America East regular-season title and first unbeaten season in conference play. Stony Brook is No. 2 in the country in scoring offense, averaging 15.94 goals per game and No. 1 in scoring defense, surrendering just 5.56 goals per game.

Vermont qualified for its first America East Championship since 2009. The Catamounts are looking for their first win in tournament history. Sydney Mas has paced Vermont's offense with 47 goals and nine assists, ranking third in the America East in goals per game.

New Hampshire and Albany are meeting for the fifth time in America East Championship play with the Wildcats holding a 3-1 edge in the all-time series. However, Albany defeated New Hampshire 18-7 in the last meeting in the 2011 semifinals. The Wildcats are led by freshman Laura McHoul, one of the America East Co-Rookies of the Year, who is third in the conference with a 2.00 assists per game average.

Albany has won back-to-back championships and head coach John Battaglino looks to become the third coach in league history to win three-straight titles. Co-Player of the Year Rachael Burek leads the conference at 5.64 points per game, scoring 30 goals and dishing out 49 assists.
