Albany men's lacrosse standout Lyle Thompson is one of five finalists for the prestigous Tewaaraton Award, which honors the top college player in the nation.

The America East Player of the Year, Thompson, had one of the best seasons a collegiate player has ever had. The sophomore attacker racked up 113 points on 50 goals and 63 assists, which set an America East single-season record and finished just one point shy of the NCAA all-time mark set by UMBC's Steve Marohl in 1992. He also led Albany to the America East title by tallying a championship-record 15 points in two games en route to earning Most Outstanding Player honors.

Thompson is second America East men's lacrosse standout to be named a finalist since 2010 as Stony Brook's Kevin Crowley achieved the feat in 2010.

The Tewaaraton Award  finalists were selected from a pool of 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees. Thompson is joined by North Carolina's Marcus Holman, Syracuse's JoJo Marasco, Cornell's Rob Pannell and Princeton's Tom Schreiber. The selection committees are comprised of 12 men’s and 10 women’s current and former college coaches.

The 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
