Stony Brook Heads to Columbia Regional for NCAA Softball Championship

INDIANAPOLIS - Stony Brook, the 2013 America East softball champion, will head to the Columbia Regional for the NCAA Tournament and face host Missouri, the No. 6 seed, in the first game of the regional, which takes place Friday through Sunday in Columbia, Mo. 

Stony Brook (35-23), which is making its second-ever NCAA appearance and first since 2008, learned its NCAA draw during the tournament selection show Sunday night on ESPNU.

The Seawolves won the America East title by becoming just the second team in league history to lose its first game of the tournament and go on to win the title, beating Albany twice on the final day to capture the crown. Allison Cukrov earned the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award after going 3-1 with a save and recording a 1.11 ERA in the circle.

Stony Brook and Missouri will be joined by in the regional by Hofstra and Oregon State, which will air on ESPN3. The Seawolves begin play against the Tigers Friday at 6:30 EDT. Hofstra and Oregon State player earlier in the day.
