CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Albany, Binghamton and Hartford each too kAmerica East softball series over the weekend with the Great Danes and Bearcats earning sweeps of Maine and UMBC, respectively and Hartford taking two of three from Boston U. Three players who led those teams to strong weekends are this week's conference award winners, which were announced Tuesday afternoon.Hartford's Chelsey Mooney earned Player of the Week honors, Albany's Brittany MacFawn is the Pitcher of the Week and Binghamton's Taylor Chaffee is the Rookie of the Week.Mooney (Corona, Calif.) enjoyed one of the best weeks of her career, batting a robust .643 (9-for-14) in helping leading Hartford to an impressive 4-1 mark, which included the program's first-ever series win over Boston University as the Hawks took two of three games. The junior designated player slugged .786 by hitting a pair of doubles and drove in three runs while scoring two last week. MacFawn (Orlando, Fla.) picked up her second straight Pitcher of the Week honor by going 3-0 in four appearances last week and allowing just two runs (0.51 ERA) in 27 1/3 innings. The junior hurler, who came within one out of a perfect game against Siena Monday, allowed just 12 hits and two walks all week while striking out 34. She fired a five-hit shutout in Albany's 1-0 win over Maine Thursday, which finished off the series sweep.Chaffee (Watkins Glen, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week accolades by hitting .421 with a team-best two home runs and nine RBI in leading Binghamton to a 4-1 week, including a series sweep over UMBC. She also finished the week with a .442 on-base percentage and .842 slugging percentage.
