CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After sweeping their respective America East weekend series, Albany, Hartford and Maine each had players earn conference weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday.
Albany junior Josh Nethaway earned America East Player of the Week honors, while Maine junior Tommy Lawrence was named Pitcher of the Week and Hartford freshman Chris DelDebbio was recognized as Rookie of the Week.
After no teams had registered sweeps through the first three weekends of the conference season, three teams notched sweeps this past weekend as Albany took three from Stony Brook, Hartford swept three from UMBC and Maine won both games in a doubleheader against Binghamton.
Nethaway (Fonda, N.Y.) led UAlbany to a 3-0 series sweep over Stony Brook with a team-best .455 batting average and .727 slugging percentage, logging a home run, three RBI, and four runs scored. Nethaway crossed the plate and lined at least one hit in each game, including a pair of multi-hit performances. Facing a 4-0 deficit in game one, Nethaway capped the Danes’ sixth inning rally with a game-tying two-run home run with two outs. Nethaway recorded two hits in each of the final two games, including driving in the game-tying run in the series finale, as well as scoring what would become the game-winning run.
Lawrence (West Haven, Conn.) won his fourth straight game for the Black Bears with a 5-2 victory over Binghamton. He allowed two runs, just one of which was earned, while logging his team-leading third complete games of the year. Lawrence held the league’s best offense to only one earned run while striking out seven.
DelDebbio (Danbury, Conn.) led Hartford to a 3-1 week including a three-game sweep of UMBC in conference action. DelDebbio finished the four-game week second overall with a .353 batting average, tied for the team-high with six hits in 17 at bats. The rookie center fielder finished with a pair of RBI and scored three runs. One of his six hits went for two bases. In the three-game series against the Retrievers, DelDebbio led the Hawks, hitting at a .385 clip with five hits in 13 at bats and both RBI. For the season, DelDebbio is second on the team with a .284 batting average on 27 hits in 95 at bats. He also leads the team with 13 runs batted in and has scored 11 times. Seven of his 27 total hits have gone for extra bases, six doubles and a triple.
