Albany Sweeps Men's and Women's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- University at Albany swept the 2013 America East Men's and Women's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year awards with Lyle Thompson taking home the men's award and Rachael Burek earning the women's. The winners were determined by the fans' votes on the America East Facebook page.

Thompson received 26 percent of nearly 250 votes on the men's side, while Burek tallied 156 of just over 400 votes on the women's side.

Thompson, a sophomore attacker, had arguably the best season in America East history. He has racked up 93 points on 40 goals and 53 assists, the second-most points in league history. Thompson, who leads the nation averaging 6.64 points per game, tallied 38 points in five conference games, the most in league history. He earned America East Player of the Week honors three times this season.

Burek, a senior attacker, led the conference in points per game (5.64) while racking up 30 goals and a league-best 49 assists. Burek, a senior attacker, broke the America East assist record, recording 24 in six conference games. Burek , who ranks second in the nation with 3.50 assists per game,  has 79 points in 14 games this year.

One nominee from each school was listed on the America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year ballots with voting running from April 24-30 on the conference's Facebook page.
