CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three Boston University Terriers have been named America East Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon. Katie Matthews, the female Track Performer of the Week, was the third Terrier to be honored. Vermont’s Nika Ouellette rounds out this week's award winners as the female Field Performer of the Week.
Peters (Bristol, England) blazed to a win in his season debut at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. The junior won gold in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:43.26. That time is currently the fastest in the NCAA Division I East Region by nearly a full second. Peters was an All-America selection in the 1,500 a year ago.
Horace (Warwick, R.I.) finds him amongst the nation’s leaders in the hammer throw after the Snowflake Classic this weekend. The freshman placed second with a toss of 57.54 meters, which is the 27th best distance in the NCAA Division I East Region.
After being named an All-American during the indoor season, Matthews (Rocky Hill, Conn.) is again one of the nation’s top runners for the outdoor season. A graduate student, Matthews won the 10,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 33:36.68. Her time is the fastest in the conference and the fourth fastest in the NCAA Division I East Region.
Another All-American, Ouellette (Brookline, Mass.) traveled to the prestigious Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Not only did the junior finish fourth in the javelin throw at the relays, her current throw is the fourth best in the NCAA Division I East Region as well.
