CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After capturing conference victories for their respective teams over the weekend, Boston University and Stony Brook split the America East women’s lacrosse weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday.
Boston U. senior Danielle Etrasco was named Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Sofia Robins earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Stony Brook goalie Frankie Caridi notched Defensive Player of the Week.
Etrasco (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the Terrier offensive attack in a 21-12 victory over Binghamton, tallying eight points with six goals and two assists. The eight points and six goals were a high for any player in the conference last week. Adding to that, the senior also had three ground balls, a team-high four caused turnovers, and a team-high five draw controls. Three of Etrasco’s goals came during an important 5-2 run by Boston U. that stretched a 10-7 lead to 16-9. Her six goals came on 10 totals shots.
Robins (Stevenson, Md.) totals one goal and two assists for three points in Boston U.’s win over Binghamton. The freshman also added two ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls to help the Terriers to their second conference win of the season.
Caridi (East Northport, N.Y.) continued the top defensive team in the country, helping Stony Brook to a 16-6 win over New Hampshire and clinch a spot in the 2013 America East Championship. Caridi captained a defense that allowed single-digits in scoring for the 13th time in 14 games this season. She received national recognition once again, being named in ILWomen's Position Rankings for the second time this season. Caridi helped SBU win its seventh straight win to match a school record set in 2007. She made eight saves to go with two ground balls and one caused turnover, recording a .571 save percentage for the Seawolves.
