Stony Brook Clinches Spot in America East Women's Lax Championship Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team became the first team in the conference to clinch a spot in the 2013 America East Championship with a 16-6 win over New Hampshire on Saturday. Also on Saturday, Albany moved into second-place with a win over UMBC and Boston U. defeated Binghamton, creating a three-way tie for the final playoff spot.

Demmianne Cook and Janine Hiller combined for 10 points as No. 10/11 Stony Brook clinched a spot in the America East Championship with a 16-6 win over New Hampshire. After four minutes of scoreless lacrosse to start the game, Stony Brook scored the next ten goals to take a 10-0 at the 10:55 mark of the first half.

Cook had five goals to lead the Seawolves while Laura Puccia and Amber Casiano had two goals each for the Wildcats. Stony Brook has won seven-straight games.

Ariana Parker netted her 100th career goal to help Albany to a 9-6 win over UMBC to take over second place in the conference standings. Trailing 5-3 with 26 minutes left in the game, the Great Danes scored six-straight goals over the next 22 minutes to take control of the contest. Parker scored the final three goals of the run to give Albany a one-game lead over UMBC for second-place in the conference.

Behind a combined 12 goals from seniors Danielle Etrasco and Kristen Mogavero, Boston University defeated Binghamton, 21-12, on Saturday afternoon in the Terriers’ Senior Day at Nickerson Field. It is the second-straight game the Terriers have scored at-least 20 goals, marking the first time in program history that the Terriers have had back-to-back games in which they have scored at least 20 goals.
