Softball Conference Play Passes Midway Mark This Weekend

Conference play in softball crosses the midway point with three series this weekend. Binghamton will host Maine, UMBC visits Boston U. and Albany hosts Stony Brook.

Maine at Binghamton -- Live Stats

Binghamton (15-11, 5-1 AE) and Maine (6-29, 2-4 AE) tangle in Vestal Saturday. The Bearcats swept UMBC last weekend while the Black Bears were swept by Albany. Freshman first baseman Lisa Cadogan leads the Bearcats with a .353 batting average, six home runs and 25 RBI. She ranks second in the America East with a .659 slugging percentage. Jean Stevens, who belted two home runs in Binghamton's 11-3 win at Boston College Wednesday, leads the America East with 10 home runs and ranks second with 28 RBI.

Both Boston U. (11-20-1, 2-4 AE) and UMBC (8-29, 1-8 AE) enter the weekend looking to snap losing skids as the Terriers have dropped three straight and the Retrievers eight in a row. The game will feature two of the league's top hitters as UMBC's Taylor Hall Taylor Hall leads the league in hitting at .402 and has six homers with 34 RBIs and Boston U.'s Jaime Mask ranks second hitting .367 and has 18 steals.

Two of America East's hottest teams square off when Albany (19-9, 6-0 AE) and Stony Brook (21-15, 4-2 AE) square off this weekend. The Great Danes have won 14 of their last 16 while the Seawolves have won nine in a row. A few of the league's best pitchers will be featured in this series as Albany's Brittany MacFawn has 11 wins and a league-best 144 strikeouts. Christine Lucido paces Stony Brook with a 2.01 ERA and nine wins. The Seawolves head coach Megan Bryant is one win shy of 700 for her career.
