CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Stony Brook and Albany each swept America East softball series over the weekend and two players who keyed those sweeps have earned the league's weekly awards for the week ending March 31. The honorees were announced Monday afternoon.Stony Brook's Shayla Giosia picked up Player of the Week accolades while Albany's Brittany MacFawn is the Pitcher of the Week and Kelly Costello is the Rookie of the Week.Giosia (Runnemede, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) earned Player of the Week honors by hitting .467 (7-for-15) and slugging .733 in five games last week, while driving in seven runs and scoring six. The sophomore outfielder also walked four times and had a .579 on-base percentage for the week. Giosia's best game of the week came in an 8-7 win over Long Island Wednesday as she went 2-for-4, including a three-run home run, and knocked in four. MacFawn (Orlando, Fla.) was nearly perfect on the mound last week en route to earning Pitcher of the Week accolades. The junior righthander allowed just one run on one hit in two wins over Hartford and fired the second no-hitter of her career. MacFawn n0-hit Hartford Friday in Albany's 1-0 win, striking 10 while walking none. She followed up with a one-hitter, allowing just a solo home run, and fanning nine in a 2-1 win Saturday. Costello (Windsor, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with a walk in three games last week, all Albany wins, as she picked up her first Rookie of the Week award. The freshman outfielder got a hit in her only official at-bat in a 1-0 win over Hartford Friday, driving in what proved to be the winning run in the sixth. She then went 2-for-3, including a homer, and drove in three in the nightcap, a 9-4 Great Danes' win.
