Albany's Lyle Thompson, Hartford's Bobzien Garner Men's Lacrosse Accolades

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A pair of performances that led to their teams to wins in America East men's lacrosse openers last weekend have netted two of the league's to scorers the conference's weekly awards for the week ending March 31. The recipients were announced Monday afternoon.

Albany's Lyle Thompson racked up nine points in his team's win at Binghamton to take home Player of the Week honors, while Jack Bobzien tallied a career-best six points and helped Hartford post a comeback win over UMBC to earn his third Rookie of the Week honor of the year.

Thompson (Onondoga Nation, N.Y.) tallied nine goals and eight assists in a pair of Albany wins last week, including a career-high tying nine against the Bearcats, to earn his third Player of the Week honor of the season. The sophomore attack had four goals and as many assists in a 16-7 win at Hartford. He then had five goals and four assists, tying Albany's program record for points, in a 21-8 win over Bingahmton Saturday. Thompson has accumulated 25 goals and 39 assists in just nine games and leads the nation in points per game (7.1 ppg) and assists per game (4.3 apg)

Bobzien (Littleton, Colo.) assisted on a career-high five goals and scored one to help lead his team to a thrilling, 15-14, overtime victory over UMBC Saturday. The freshman attack, who also picked up a career-best five ground balls, helped fuel the Hawks' comeback, setting up two fourth-quarter scores as Hartford scored three unanswered goals to force overtime before ending the game in the extra session. Bobzien ranks second in America East with 25 assists and fifth with 31 points.

Albany, which has won five of their last six games, re-entered the national rankings this week, coming in at 20th in both the USILA Coaches' Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. The Great Danes and Hawks have now won four of their last five games, were also joined in the win column by Stony Brook last week. The Seawolves beat Vermont, 19-10, behind six points from Jeff Tundo and five from Brody Eastwood.
