Stony Brook Sweeps Men's Lacrosse Awards After 2 Wins over Big East Teams

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- After picking up a pair of road wins over BIG EAST opponents last week, Stony Brook University has swept the America East men's lacrosse weekly awards. The honorees for the week ending March 3 were announced Monday morning.

The Seawolves' Jeff Tundo is the Player of the Week after racking up 13 points in the two games, while teammate Challen Rogers is the Rookie of the Week after totaling eight points, including six in a win over Rutgers Saturday.

Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) had six goals and seven assists in just two games, wins at St. John's and Rutgers. The senior midfielder tallied a career-best nine points (5G, 4A) in an 11-7 win at St. John's Tuesday, factoring in on nine of the Seawolves' first 10 scores as they built a 10-5 lead early in the fourth quarter. On Saturday, Tundo had a goal and three assists and set up the game winner in SBU's thrilling 9-8 triple overtime victory at Rutgers. On the season, Tundo has a league-best 13 goals and is tied for the most points with 23.

Rogers (Coquitlam, British Columbia) totaled four goals and four assists in helping Stony Brook to two wins last week en route to his first career Rookie of the Week honor. The freshman midfielder had a goal and an assist in the win over St. John's Tuesday. then a career-high six points at Rutgers, factoring in on six of the Seawolves' nine scores (3G, 3A). Rogers has at least one point in all five games to date.

Elsewhere over the weekend, Binghamton beat Hobart, 6-2, behind 15 saves from goalkeeper Max Shefler, while Drew Philie's overtime score gave Vermont its first win, a 6-5 victory over Bryant. Additionally, No. 19/20 Albany fell to Yale, 15-8, and UMBC dropped an 11-4 decision to Fairfield.
