KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Three of America East's men's basketball standouts received All-Region recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) this week. Stony Brook's Tommy Brenton, the conference's Player and Defensive Player of the Year, earned first-team honors while teammate Jameel Warney, the league's Rookie of the Year, was a second-team choice along with Boston University's D.J. Irving, a first-team All-America East performer. Brenton, who led Stony Brook to a school-record 25 wins, its third America East regular-season title in four years and its first-ever postseason win, finished the year ranked third in America East in both rebounding (8.7 rpg) and assists (4.8 apg) while contributing 8.7 points per contest. The first-team all-leaguer finished his career tied for third on the conference's all-time rebound list.Warney, a freshman forward who also earned second-team all-league and all-defensive honors, led Stony Brook averaging 12.4 points per game, good for 10th in the conference, while ranking sixth in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and third in blocks (1.5 bpg). He also led the league and ranks fifth nationally shooting 61.8 percent from the field.Irving, a junior guard, led the Terriers in scoring (14.2 ppg), which ranked sixth among league leaders and also averaged 3.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. He tallied more than 20 points seven times.The 242 student-athletes tabbed All-District selections are eligible for the NABC Coaches' Division I All-America teams.
