Home teams went 3-1 Saturday as the second half of America East's men's basketball conference schedule fully kicked into gear. Albany, Hartford and UMBC held serve on their home courts, while Stony Brook picked up a road win, its 10th of the season, which is the most in the country.
The game of the day took place in Baltimore where Brian Neller sank a three-pointer with 0.5 seconds left to lift UMBC (6-16, 4-5 AE) to a 68-67 win over Maine (8-14, 3-6 AE). The Retievers, who eclipsed last year's win total with the victory and already have their most wins since the 2008-09 season, shot 57 percent after halftime and used a 17-0 second-half run to came back from a 14-point deficit. Chase Plummer led the charge with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Zarko Valjarevic led four Black Bears in double figures with 20 points.
Elsewhere, Albany (17-7, 6-4 AE) snapped its three-game losing skid with a 79-46 win over Binghamton (3-18, 1-8 AE), Hartford (12-10, 5-4 AE) beat Boston U. (11-11, 5-4 AE) 66-58 to sweep the season set from the Terriers and Stony Brook (17-5, 8-1 AE) toughed out a 56-54 win at New Hampshire (6-15, 2-7 AE)
In Albany, the Great Danes shot a season-high 55 percent from the floor and got 37 points from their bench to improve to 10 games over .500. Jayson Guerrier led the way with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Jordan Reed and Brian Freeman each had 14 for Binghamton.
In Hartford, the Hawks shot 51 percent from the field to sweep the season series from Boston U. for the first time since the 1998-99 campaign. Mark Nwakamma recorded his first double-double of the season, contributing 22 points and 12 rebounds. D.J. Irving paced the Terriers with 14 points and eight boards.
In Durham, Anthony Jackson's three-pointer with 1:16 left gave first-place Stony Brook a four-point lead, which was enough to earn its fourth-straight win and ninth in its last 10 games. Dave Coley paced the Seawolves with 13 points and eight boards. Chandler Rhoads' 12 points and seven boards led UNH, which had its two-game win streak stopped.
